SCUSD Board of Education President
The stakes are high for our school district, and the decisions we make today will shape our children's futures.
As your School Board Trustee, I'll work diligently to lift up each student, and champion an education that feeds their hearts and minds. I'll lead with honesty, energy, and a sense of urgency. And I'll keep the the focus where it belongs: on our kids.
I’m a proud product of public schools. I know high-performing schools are critical to ensuring every child can reach their potential. I’m a parent of two Sacramento City Unified students and an active school volunteer, so I know how School Board decisions play out in the classroom. And I’m a fiscal and policy advisor to top state officials with the expertise to navigate complex issues and the judgement to make the right call.
Now more than ever, our board needs someone with solid fiscal experience who can be an honest broker and advocate for our kids. Someone who can ask the right questions and make fact-based and collaborative decisions. I’m in this race because I saw the opportunity to apply my unique skill set and balanced, principled approach to work on the school board, to help all Sac City kids develop to their full potential.
I hope to earn your support.
As your SCUSD Area 1 School Board Trustee, my priorities will include:
PROTECTING STUDENTS WHILE SOLVING THE STRUCTURAL BUDGET DEFICIT. I will fight for a student-centered approach to budgeting, looking for cost savings while prioritizing programs and approaches our students need to be successful.
INTRODUCING SOUND BUDGETING PRINCIPLES TO PREVENT FUTURE CRISES. To protect our students, teachers, staff, and community from future budget problems, we need to use best practices for responsible budgeting. I will ensure strong board oversight of budget development and spending to ensure the budget is sustainable and reflects community priorities.
SCHOOLS AS HUBS OF HEALTH AND WELLNESS. I will look for creative solutions to improve mental health services for students and champion healthy development through safe routes to school, school-based health centers to increase access to care, farm-to-fork nutrition and nutrition education, water as a drink of choice, mindfulness, and appropriate technology use.
PROMOTING EQUITY THROUGH WORLD-CLASS OPPORTUNITIES FOR ALL STUDENTS. We must leverage available public and community resources to make sure all kids can access music, art, sports, hands-on learning experiences, and other enrichment activities.
COLLEGE AND CAREER READINESS PATHWAYS that reflect our students’ range of skills, aptitudes, and interests. Engaging career-focused education that supports local workforce priorities should complement academically focused college preparatory coursework.
